What do you think about/do in your idle time?

Today our school had a special summit for us students. For accounting we had to attend a summit for part of our final grade and for economics we could go for extra credit. Basically I just killed two birds with one stone. Lauren and I went and listened to Jeff Benedict. I went in thinking.. this is going to be so boring, but actually in reality it was really interesting. He started off with a clip from Catch Me if You Can, and told us that it was a good story because it caught each and every one of our attention's. The clip showed Lionardo D'Capprio in a prison and the FBI offering him a job to come and work with them for the remainder of his sentence of 12 years. Brother Benedict then went on to say "You never know when you will be given an opportunity." We need to prepare ourselves throughout life so that when life changing opportunities come along we can "jump off the cliff with no parachute". Jeff told us that he had talked with the worlds youngest/ fastest made billionaire and asked him how he had such great success. "Success is born of failure, our childhood dreams were fairy tales, but reality is a lot messier and more dramatic." This to me is very profound because we all have failures, and it only makes our success more worth it. If we succeeded at everything we wanted to, there would not be room for the better things in life that come our way. So what do you think about in your idle time? When he asked us this, I automatically started thinking about family, friends and music. "What you think about in your idle time is the direction you are going." That is honestly so crazy to think about. I may be two years out of high school, but I know so many people who don't think for the future, and I even catch myself not thinking in the right direction I should. He then asked, "what do you do in your time where you don't have to do anything"? Facebook was mentioned. I had to laugh, "If you have 15 mins of free time and you get on your facebook to change your status to making cookies, thats dumb. If you comment on that persons status asking if they are good, that's even dumber." HAHAHAHA Personally I hate when people update their status 570284710874 times a day, so that just made me chuckle. Social media sites are most likely your only form of advertisement. When you go to get a job in the future, thats what your employer will be looking out. If you have goofy pictures or partying pictures and are using it for things like this, they will not take you seriously. Note to self... hahaha jking. Well anyways, he told us we need to think about our passions in life during our free time, time is flying by and we can't afford to waste it. Also hard workers out weigh people with super high GPA's, people with connections and anything like that. If you can't work hard or don't have a strong work ethic, they don't want you. So basically think for your future. Be smart kids :)
